The Rye PD has made another stolen car arrest – this one after a pursuit on Milton Road, through the south end of Rye and onto Interstate 95.

Shortly after 5:30pm Monday evening, Rye Police Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit after a license plate reader identified the plate on the vehicle as stolen out of Ramapo, New York. The pursuit began on Milton Road and was picked up by other Rye Units.

Continuing through the south end of town, the pursuit ended when the driver entered I-95 and Rye units were told to terminate the pursuit due to the speed the car was traveling. The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department picked up car in their jurisdiction and detained the driver for Rye Police officers.

Rye PD arrested 24-year-old driver Qasim Ahmed Muhammed of Jersey City, New Jersey. Muhammed was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree, a class D Felony, Criminal Possession of Weapon 4th degree, class A Misdemeanor, and Reckless Driving.

During the pursuit the stolen vehicle struck a Rye unit causing the front tire of the stolen Ford Mustang to disengage from the vehicle. During the inventory of the stolen Mustang one switchblade and two sets of brass knuckles were recovered. The appearance ticket issued to Muhammed is returnable to the Rye City Court on August 9th, 2022.

Rye PD reminds you booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
