Rye Boys Varsity Soccer sent Mamaroneck into the Sound on Thursday. The Garnets flooded the away game 4-0.

“We were thrilled with the total commitment from all 26 players today,” said Rye Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small. “Some contributions were obvious–Henry Field had two fantastic goals, Tommy Broderick’s second goal was a really sophisticated and patient finish, and Kyan Cox had a first-rate reaction save to preserve the clean sheet. Other contributions were more subtle but no less important–Charlie O’Rorke put together a tremendous second half to lead the backline, Jonas van Beurden slotted into a different position and absolutely locked down the opponent’s attack up the left side, Max van der Voort was a great ball winner and distributor in the center of the park, and guys like Takumi Otani brought the energy both on and off the field all afternoon. A total team win.”

The Garnets built a 1-0 lead at the half and then exploded for two early goals in the opening minutes of the second half to build a 3-0 lead. A backline anchored by goalkeeper Kyan Cox, center back Charlie O’Rorke, left back Ollie Lincoln, and right back Jonas van Beurden helped the team post the shutout.

Strong contributions from a trio of center back—Nate Cosenza, Yves Briginshaw, and Sjef Smits helped—also helped the team limit Mamaroneck’s chances.

The season stands at 2-1. Watch the replay. The Garnets play at Yorktown Monday at 6:30pm.
