Boys Varsity Soccer Takes Pearl River to a Clam Bake
Rye Boys Varsity Soccer took Pearl River to a clam bake on Friday. The Garnets tarnished their opponents 7-0 at home.
“The guys came out strong last night, and it was nice to see both Tommy Broderick and Stijn Terlouw get rewarded for their strong work rates with 3 fantastic goals each,” said Rye Boys Varsity Soccer Jared Small. “We used a lot of defenders throughout the match, and the group did a great job of preserving a clean sheet. In particular, the combination of Nate Cosenza, Sjef Smits, Jack Gilroy, Tilman Oberbannscheidt, and Mauro Flores really clamped down on the opponent in the second half.”
The Garnets jumped out to a 4-0 half time lead and added two more goals within minutes after halftime to secure a 6-0 lead. Rye remained firmly in control for the rest of the match, and a late PK converted by Yves Briginshaw gave the Garnets a seventh and final goal to cap off a strong Friday night outing. The team was joined for the pre-game walkout and halftime exhibition match by a group of Rye Youth Soccer under-11 players from a combination of the Dynamo, Earthquakes, Impact, and Rapids.
