2nd Annual Meals On Main Street Run is October 16th
The 2nd Annual Meals On Main Street (MOMS) run is Sunday, October 16th at 8am. The family-friendly 1.5 mile fun run and the 5K race will start and end at the Colony Grill in Port Chester (35 Abendroth Avenue, between Main Street and the Byram River).
Meals On Main Street (MOMS, fka Caritas) is a local Port Chester group fighting food insecurity in our area. Proceeds from the 1.5 mile family fun run and the 5k race will fund a community-wide food distribution the week of Thanksgiving in Port Chester. Last year, the MOMS run attracted 400 people and raised $80,000. Along with its Swing Into Summer event held in June, the two events represent the largest fundraisers for MOMS. The MOMS board includes 25 Rye residents. The group expects to apply the funds raised to provide turkeys and meals to the more than 3,500 people living below the poverty level.
“Last year’s race was such a huge success, we were able to extend our food and meal giveaway from Thanksgiving through the end of the year! This year, with more families in need of food, and inflation impacting the cost of everything, we plan to do it again,” said Bill Cusano, executive director at MOMS. “By hosting the charity run we not only raise the funds needed for a large-scale food distribution for Thanksgiving and beyond, but we also have an opportunity to celebrate our wonderful Port Chester community.”
