In Memory: Frank J. Lalla, Age 83
Frank J. Lalla, 83, of Leesburg, FL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 24, 2022. Born in Port Chester, NY on November 8, 1938, he was the son of Frank M and Beatrice (Sabato) Lalla.
Frank was a veteran of the United States Navy for four years from 1955 to 1959. A very determined and hardworking individual, Frank worked many jobs in his lifetime, but he was most proud to be, first, a police officer and then a professional firefighter for 32 years with the city of Rye, NY.
Frank married his sweetheart of 61 years, Alice Bitter on October 30, 1960. Upon his retirement in 1993, Frank and Alice moved to Hillsdale, NY where they built a log home together and spent their summers. Frank and Alice eventually began wintering in Leesburg, FL. They had no lack of friends no matter where they were. Frank and Alice even traveled to 48 states in a motor home and made many friends along the way.
Frank will be remembered by his family for being such a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. They will always remember the numerous skills he taught them, his amazing stories and the rich friendships he had with many people throughout his life. He had a story for each one that his family had heard many times. As well as this, Frank had many different mannerisms that will stick with his family, whether it be knocking on your car windshield with his ring finger to remind you that your inspection is due, his smile and wave when leaving, and his singing of You are My Sunshine.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife Alice, a daughter, Linda and her husband Thomas Close, two grandsons: Kevin and his wife Laura, and Brian, as well as a granddaughter, Mariana. He is predeceased by his loving parents, and a brother Bartholomew Lalla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Frank’s name to Habitat for Humanity.
