As of now, the Rye City Council race is waiting on the absentee ballots to determine the winner. The campaigns were not clear on exactly when they would hear from the Board of Elections – it is possible the process can take a couple of weeks. Neither candidate has declared victory or conceded as of this writing.

As of 6:00pm Thursday, council candidate Lori Fontanes (Dem) leads Matt Fahey (GOP) by 125 votes, based on the unofficial tally of the Westchester County Board of Elections. This is slightly more than the 116 vote lead the Board had posted Wednesday.

Fontanes now holds 3,172 (51%) versus Fahey’s 3,047 (49%) votes. The total number of votes stands at 6,219. The two are running to serve the final year of Richard Mecca’s four year council term. Emily Hurd has been serving since January after Mecca resigned for health reasons. Mecca passed away in the spring.
