In Memory: Robert John Ein, Age 89
Robert John Ein, 89, passed away at The Willows at Fritz Farm in Lexington, Kentucky on November 3 after a long illness.
Bob was born on June 28, 1933 in Boston, MA and enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Rye, New York. He stayed in touch with friends from Rye High School until his last days. Following graduation in 1951 he enrolled in Clarkson College in Potsdam, New York to study engineering. He served in the US Army as a Specialist from 1955-1958. His desire to further his engineering career led him to enroll in George Washington University in Washington, DC where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. At GW he was initiated into Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity (TKE).
He spent most of his career with the US Government in the Department of Defense including NSA and Department of the Navy with a focus on electronic warfare, satellite installations and submarine special operations. He traveled the world, lived in Germany for several years and held an intense interest in all things military all his life.
After retiring from the Government, he founded Omnitek, Inc. as a consulting business and was awarded contracts through the SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) program. He was proud to receive a patent on one of his inventions for a medical device.
Bob often reminisced about his travels, skiing trips to Mt. Tremblant, and Washington Redskins football. In his later years he was a passionate fan of University of Kentucky sports, particularly basketball. Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, and WWII movies were hobbies he enjoyed.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Johannes Ernst Ein and Alice Piik Ein, a daughter, Barbara Ellen Ein. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lindsey, son Robert John Ein of San Francisco, daughter Elizabeth Noel of Florida from former marriages. He is also survived by stepsons Gregg Siegfried (Lynn) Cincinnati, Brett Siegfried (Francie) Norfolk, VA, Kevin Siegfried (Abbey) Andover, MA and the six Siegfried grandchildren who gave Bob great joy.
A Service of Remembrance will be held Sunday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Church of the Apostles, 200 Colony Blvd., 40502. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the charity of your choice.
