(VIDEO & PHOTOS) 21st Annual Polar Bear Plunge Honors Norbert Galligan, Raises $20K

Weather was on the side of the hundreds of human polar bears that showed up on New Year’s Day in Rye Town Park for a cool dip in the Long Island Sound. The fifty degree weather was a welcome balance for those that headed into the cold waters.

The 21st Annual Ray’s Polar Bear Plunge was held in honor of local resident Norbert Galligan and raised over $20,000 for local charities. Galligan passed away this past April after a tragic biking accident in Greenwich. Organizers shared kind words about Galligan, and his wife Cliona Cronin and two boys Cian and Conor led the crowd into the water.

The funds raised will be shared among CCALS (Compassionate Care ALS), The Challenged Athletes Foundation, SOUL RYEDERS, and Outreach Resurrection.
