Varsity Ski Team Heads to Sectionals with Eight Team Qualifiers
The Rye Varsity Ski Team raced in the final qualifying event on Thursday night at Mohawk Mountain against the best racers in all of the schools in League B.

Justin Gray and Kiran Gounden-Kobes both auto-qualified coming in 7th and 8th on the night (the top 9 get into the section championship automatically). The rest of the Rye boys made a strong showing with Zach Choo, Lukas Steinmann and Carsten Steinmann, Trent Bisceglia, Harrison Gelinas, and Thomas Keller coming in 15th, 16th and 17th, 20th, 21st and 27th.
Cassidy Pagen led the Rye girls coming in at 14th followed by Thea Fairhurst, Charlotte Derman, Kira Woolsey, Samantha Hobbins and Mia Worman at 16th, 17th, 19th, 26th, and 28th on the night.
On to Sectionals
While the regular season has come to a close seeding for the Sectional Championship at Hunter mountain this Tuesday is in full swing. Racers either qualify during the two previous auto qualifier races or qualify by how they placed during the regular season.
“We are very pleased to announce that we have six Sectional qualifiers on our boys team and two qualifiers from our girls team,” said Rye Varsity Skiing Co-head Coach Jeffrey Steinmann.
All will be competing against the top 65 Racers (65 boys 65 girls) in Section 1. (North A, North B and the South Leagues) on Tuesday at the Hunter Mountain Sectional Championship. The top 11 Racers from this event will move on to the State Championship in late February.
