Varsity Skiing Thunder Down the Ridge; Head to Sectionals
Rye Varsity Skiing competed in their last team meet of the season Monday. It was a packed house at Thunder Ridge tonight with the Garnets squaring off against the entire League (Horace Greeley/ Brewster/ Mamaroneck/ Mahopac/ Carmel/ and Pawling) with the exception of Blind Brook.
The Garnets polished 2nd Place for the boys and 3rd place for the girls.
“It was a big night for our boys as they were competing for the League title but came up a bit short against the League’s powerhouse Horace Greeley who won the night,” said Rye Varsity Skiing Coach Jeffrey Steinmann.
Several racers broke into the top 20:
Girls
- Charlotte Derman 14th
- Cassidy Pagen 16th
- Kira Woolsey 18th
Boys
- Justin Gray 4th
- Kiran Gounden-Kobes 8th
- Lukas Steinmann 9th
- Carsten Steinmann 18th
- Trent Bisceglia 20th
“Coach Gray and I are extremely pleased with way this team has progressed this season, especially since many are only in their second year of racing and many others running a race course for the first time this season,” said Coach Steinmann. “While we will miss our seniors – Cassidy Pagen, Mia Worman, Fritz O’Connell, Alessia and Eva Pedrazzoli, Jack Emerson and Thomas Keller we are very excited for the future.”
Next up is an auto-qualifier event this Thursday at Mohawk mountain, which will help to determine the top 18 girls and 18 boys to compete in the Section Championship. The Garnets currently have one racer already officially qualified (Justin Gray) with several more in good shape to make the championship next week at Hunter Mountain.
