Girls Varsity Softball Traps the Wolves in Extra Innings
Rye Girls Varsity Softball trapped the John Jay Cross River Wolves on Wednesday, winning the away game in extra innings 3-2.
“This was a terrific team win in extra innings,” said Rye Girls Varsity Softball Coach Alex Tejera. “With score tied at 1 in the top of the 7th inning, Penelope Gilmore hit a triple. Ava Rollano then drove her in with an infield single to give Rye a 2 to 1 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, JJCR rallied to tie the game at 2 and had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. They hit a fly ball to left fielder Hana Murati, who caught the ball and threw out the potential winning run at home to preserve the tie. In the top of the 8th, Erin Ball, lead off the inning with a bunt single and stole 2nd. Millie Brooks then hit an infield single and Erin Ball scored on an errant throw to third to give us a 3 to 2 lead. Winning pitcher Erin Ball then recorded a 1,2,3 bottom of the 8th to seal the victory.”
