In Memory: James Harten Finneran, Age 76, Owner of The Pub
James Harten Finneran, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by his devoted family on May 16, 2023. A longtime Rye resident, he was 76.
“Jim” as he was known by friends and family, was born on March 10th, 1947 in White Plains, New York, to his loving parents, Sherman Finneran and Margaret Harten Finneran. Jim grew up in White Plains, alongside his sister Ann Sullivan and his brothers Bob and Tom Finneran. He attended Archbishop Stepinac High School before earning his Bachelor of Science in Business at Manhattan College. After graduation, he become a restauranteur, and most notably, owner of The Pub in Rye, which he opened in 1982.
As a devoted family man, Jim’s family brought him great joy throughout his life. In 1979, he married Theresa MacMahon Finneran. Jim and “Teri” met growing up together in White Plains, New York and later reconnected through Teri’s brother, John. Jim and Teri’s nearly 44 year marriage was a testament to the power of a strong and enduring partnership. Together, they created a beautiful family and shared countless cherished memories.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Meghan Finneran Grant of Brooklyn, New York, and Kathleen (Sean) Finneran McCorry of Rye, New York; and his two grandsons Finn William McCorry and Jack Declan McCorry. His family meant the world to him and he took great pride in watching them grow. He cherished every moment spent with family and his love, wisdom and laughter was limitless.
Jim loved making chili and clam chowder, golfing, spending summer vacations on Cape Cod and cheering for the New York Rangers. He was a pillar of the Rye community, serving as a volunteer fireman and proprietor of The Pub. He will be dearly missed and remembered for his warmth, generosity and zest for life.
The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home on Friday May 19th from 4-6 pm. A funeral service will be held at The Church of the Resurrection in Rye, New York on Saturday May 20th at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
