In Memory: Alice Taylor Beringer, Age 95

Obituary - Alice T. BeringerAlice Taylor Beringer passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023, at the age of 95.

Alice was born on November 23, 1927, in Adams, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melville Fuller Taylor and Gladys Stratton Taylor and her husband, Stuart Marshall Beringer, as well as a son, Peter Marshall Beringer.

Alice moved with her parents to Rye, NY when she was 8 years old and lived there for the remainder of her life. She attended Rye Country Day School and graduated from Rosemary Hall boarding school. She then went to Smith College and graduated in the spring of 1949. Shortly afterward she married Stuart Marshall Beringer on June 25, 1949, and they were happily married for 54 years until Stuart’s death in 2004.

A talented artist, Alice studied the art of decorative painted finishes at the Isabel O’Neil Studio in NYC where she earned a Master’s Certificate. She launched her own company, Creative Painted Finishes, with her fellow graduate, Sarah Vorderbreugge. In addition to working throughout the Tri-State area, their work was featured several times at the Tiffany & Co. flagship store in Manhattan when exceptional decorative pieces of furniture were displayed that were created by Isabel O’Neil Studio graduates.

In addition to the Beringer home in Rye, the Beringer’s built a lovely home called Surf Song, on Windermere Island, Eleuthera, Bahamas, where Alice entertained friends and family for decades. While there she continued her creative endeavors learning the fine art of Nantucket Basket making.

She was an active member of the Rye Garden Club for over 50 years and was also a member of the United Hospital Twig Organization. Alice was a long-term member of the Apawamis Club and the American Yacht Club.

She is survived by her son, Stuart Stratton Beringer and his wife, Daryn Peeples Beringer along with four grandchildren, Taylor Randolph Beringer, Stuart Marshall Beringer, II, Casey Stratton Beringer and Kristina Taylor Beringer along with two great grandchildren, Connor Randolph Beringer and Katherine Mae Beringer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Rye Presbyterian Church Columbarium Fund which is the final resting place of Alice and Stuart Beringer.
