RHS Graduation is Friday, Rain or Shine
[Livestream information included.]
With a stormy and rainy forecast looming for both Friday and Saturday, Rye High School has cemented Friday, June 16 as the official graduation date — regardless of weather. The graduation is set to begin at 6:30pm.
If the weather allows, graduates, families, and faculty will celebrate on the turf field at Nugent Stadium, as is done traditionally. Should mother nature have other plans, however, all graduation ceremonies will be relocated to the high school gym.
“We will make every effort to hold the ceremony outdoors, but if it is raining heavily or there are thunderstorms in the area at the time of the event, we will move indoors,” Superintendent of Schools Eric Byrne said in an email Thursday.
The initial rain date for the event was Saturday, but with a not-so-promising forecast then, the district decided to commit to Friday, rain or shine. This should avoid additional inconveniences for families with extended family members coming into town.
Due to the capacity of the high school gym, graduates will each be given two tickets with which family and other guests can use to attend the ceremonies. Any other spectators will be redirected to the high school performing arts center (PAC) where a live stream of the graduation will play. Seats in the PAC are limited, though the facility holds 700+.
A live stream will also be accessible so that people have the option to watch from home.
