Rye Lifers: Scott and Nancy Dunn
MyRye.com: Why are you a Rye “Lifer”?
The Dunns: We moved to Rye in 1976, right after our MBA program at Columbia. We owned five houses: Fernwood Avenue, Green Avenue, Drake Smith Lane, Harding Drive, now at The Osborn. Our two sons grew up in Rye at the above addresses. They attended all elementary schools, middle school and high school. Our sons graduated from Rye High in 1996 and 2001, they participated in sports and music.
Where in Rye do you live now?
The Dunns: We live at The Osborn on Theall Road. It is a great retirement community with continuing care, with a well kept up campus and great services.
Where do you work in Rye and what do you do?
The Dunns: Nancy worked at Rye Middle School from 1990-2004 as assistant to the principal. She was claims auditor for the school for three years.
What in your view are the two or three greatest Rye traditions—current or past?
The Dunns:
- Rye Little League and its parade
- Turkey Run at Thanksgiving
What about the great Rye institutions—community organizations, shops, restaurants. Which ones are or have been part of the Rye fabric?
The Dunns:
- Rye Beach Pharmacy, known owner for 50 Years.
- Historical Society Square House. Nancy was docent for many years.
- Rye Country Store, great food and friendly staff.
- Rye Fish and Game Clue. Great for socializing with other long-time Rye residents.
