In Memeory: Sayre S. Lukason, Age 75
Sayre S. Lukason, longtime resident of Old Greenwich, CT, passed away on July 3, 2023, at the age of 75, after a year-long battle with aggressive colon cancer.
Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of Eleanor F. and David S. Shields. Sayre is a graduate of The Rosemary Hall School, Converse College, and New England Conservatory of Music. She taught general and choral music in Rye, NY public schools for 10 years and offered piano lessons in her private studio for nearly 60 years. In 1992 she opened the Old Greenwich Music Studio where she and a staff of teachers offered music instruction for all ages (birth – 99+), including many Greenwich and Stamford area preschools, until 2022.
Sayre was a long time member of Christ Church in Greenwich, CT where she was actively involved with the Altar Guild, Holy Rollers, Children’s Chapel, and Outreach. She enjoyed sailing, gardening, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, patience, fearlessness, and firm belief that girls can do anything.
She is survived by her husband, Vincent M. Lukason, daughters The Rev. Lauren S. Lukason (Peter C. Schilling) of Wrentham, MA; Carolyn F. Daley (Gossett) and grandsons Jayden and Cameron of Old Greenwich, CT; and Kiersten Lukason of Brooklyn, NY; her brothers David S. Shields of Mystic, CT, Roger Shields (Cathy) of Norwalk, CT, William Shields (Julie) of Minnetonka, MN, and sister Eleanor F. Shields of Mystic, CT, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Thomas R. Shields.
