Seven More Hires @ Rye Schools

Rye City School District new employees as of 2023-08-30

Just before school starts next Wednesday, September 6th, The Rye City School District’s Board of Education approved seven more hires across the District, High and Middle Schools. Here are the additional teachers and staff:

Districtwide

Teachers

Megan Biddle, RHS and RMS Library Media Specialist

Ms. Biddle comes to Rye from Van Cortlandt Elementary School in Mohegan Lake, NY, where she was the Library Media Specialist for the past year. She has nine years of experience as a Library Media Specialist at the high school level, having worked at Newtown High School in Sandy Hook, CT, and Darien High School. She has also worked as a K-8 Library Media Specialist at the Clinton Avenue School in New Haven, CT and at the middle school level at Louis M. Klein Middle School in Harrison, NY. She began her career as Library Media Specialist at the Walden Learning Center at Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES. She has a BA in communication from the University of Maryland, College Park, and an MS in Library and Information Science from LIU (Long Island University) Post.

Jelena Rodovanovic-Mileno, RN, Districtwide Nurse

Ms. Mileno comes to the RCSD from Lawrence Hospital Center in Bronxville, NY, where she worked as a Registered Nurse on the Maternal-Child Health Team for 11 years. Previously, she spent five years as an RN in the Surgical Medical Unit of the same hospital. She began her career as an RN at ENT and Allergy Associates. Her nursing degree comes from the Nadezda Vilimanovic Jankovic Medical School in Cacak, Yugoslavia.

 

Rye High School

Maryann Goldstein, Computer Science

Maryann Goldstein comes to RHS to fill a new position; that of computer science teacher. She comes to Rye from the Ridgefield, CT, schools where she spent the past 14 years as a computer science and math teacher for grades 9-12 at Ridgefield High School, and as a math teacher and math specialist at East Ridge Middle School in Ridgefield, CT. from 2012-2021, she was the math department leader at East Ridge Middle School. She has a BS in Science, Secondary Education Mathematics, and an MA in Mathematics, both from Western Connecticut State University.

Rosie Smith, School Psychologist

Ms. Smith comes to RHS to serve as School Psychologist. Most recently, she worked as a school psychologist at the Daniel Webster Elementary School in New Rochelle. Prior to that, she was a school psychologist and CPSE Chairperson at the Waverly Elementary School in Eastchester, NY, and the Daniel Warren Elementary School in Mamaroneck, NY. She completed her school psychology internship in the Edgemont Union Free School District in Scarsdale, NY. She began her career in education as a special education aide at the Greenville Elementary School in Edgemont. Ms. Smith has a BA in Psychology from SUNY Binghamton and an MA in School Psychology from Iona College.

 

Rye Middle School

Prior to coming to Rye, she spent four years as a student support specialist and two as a transition coordinator at Bard Early College in Queens, NY.)

Dr. Amy Goods, Special Education

Dr. Goods comes to RMS to work as a teacher for the S.A.L.T. (Students Advancing Learning Together) program, a special education program designed to individualize functional academics to meet student needs. Prior to coming to Rye, she spent four years as a student support specialist and two as a transition coordinator at Bard Early College in Queens, NY. Previously, she worked as a special education science teacher at MS 447: The Math & Science Exploratory School in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Goods has a BA in Math and Science with concentration in Biology from Wheelock College in Boston, MA, an MS in Adolescence Science Education from Brooklyn College, and a Ph.D. in Urban Education from the CUNY Graduate Center.

Alina Macarie, French

Ms. Macarie is already a familiar face, having completed her student teaching and working as a substitute and leave replacement French teacher at RMS. Prior to coming to Rye, she taught grades 10 and 11 French at Nyack High School. She began her teaching career in Romania, where she taught English to students grades 9-12 at the Ion Ghica Economic High School and the Letea High School, both in Bacau, Romania. She has a BA from the University of Bacau, Romania, in English and French Grammar and Literature and an MA in Teaching from Manhattanville College.

Stephen York, Special Education

Mr. York comes to RMS from the Fordham Leadership Academy in Bronx, NY, where he taught special education for five years. Previously he was a leave replacement teacher in a special education classroom and a permanent substitute teacher at Copper Beech Middle School in Shrub Oak, NY. He began his teaching career as a leave replacement teacher in a special education classroom at Lakeland High School, also in Shrub Oak. Mr. York has a BA in History from Mount Saint Mary’s College and an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Manhattanville College.
