In Memory: Elizabeth Chandler Zoch-Harper, Age 47
Elizabeth Chandler Zoch-Harper, age 47, passed away at her home in San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
Chandler grew up in Rye, New York, and moved to a ranch in Mountain Home, Texas in 1992. She graduated from The Winston School of San Antonio, and attended Sweetbriar College where she was a Fine Arts major and a member of the Equestrian Team. Chandler’s love of horses began at their family ranch in the Texas Hill Country. At age five, in New York, she began competing in English riding, starting in the short stirrup class. Years later, her riding career culminated in Texas where she placed first on her horse, Captain, in the Hunter Class in Zone Seven (Texas and six surrounding states), and third place on her horse, Eddy. Chandler loved her family most of all. She was devoted to her beautiful, talented daughter, Faye. Nothing gave Chandler more pleasure than sharing their love of horses, dogs, art, and listening to Faye play the guitar. She enjoyed a lifetime of Golden Retrievers (too many to name), jigsaw puzzles, books about animals and practical jokes. She loved music—the Stones, the Beatles, Bob Marley and the Dead. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and Halloween was a favorite time so she could dress up in costumes and scare people. Most of all, she loved sharing time with her family at their ranch in the Hill Country.
Chandler is survived by her daughter, Ruth Faye Harper and her father, Michael “Miguel” Dunlop Harper, Jr., her mother, Marion “Mimi” Chandler Zoch; her brother, Frank Peter Zoch IV and wife Jennifer; her sister, Rhonda Lee Zoch and husband Guy Benjamin; her sister, Patricia Zoch Smith and husband Ryan Smith; her brother, Frank Morgan Zoch and wife Jenevieve; nieces and nephews Gracie, Oscar and Carabelle Newton; Elizabeth, Morgan and Lee Smith; Peter, Sidney Pearl, and Jewel Zoch; one great niece, Daisy Burton, and two devoted Golden Retrievers, Chief and Mongo.
Chandler was preceded in death by her father, Frank Peter Zoch III; her sister, Laura Frances Zoch; her grandparents, Faye Cornelius and James Morgan Chandler, and Elizabeth Kercheville and Frank Peter Zoch, Jr. Chandler was known to family and friends by the childhood nickname she gave herself, Baby Cha Cha.
