(PHOTOS) Rye Starts to Dry Out from Flooding, Debris Pickup Schedule
With water receding Sunday, the City of Rye is beginning its clean-up.
The City is asking residents to place debris curbside for pick-up on Monday morning. Residents should keep household trash separate from debris and do not put out any flammables, paint cans, or propane tanks. If your property experienced more than 12 inches of flooding, please contact the Fire Department at 914-967-4530.
The Department of Public Works was removing barricades Sunday and street sweeping debris. Flood waters were still receding around Park Avenue and the Nature Center bridge remained closed Sunday morning.
In other flood news:
- One boat in the Rye Marina sunk.
- Swift water rescue saved two kayakers in the area of Glendale Road on Saturday.
- No totals are available on lost vehicles although PD believe this number will be relatively low as they actively removed vehicles from low lying areas on Saturday.
- The City Shelter at Rye Golf Club closed at 7:00pm Saturday. As of 5:30pm, only one family had checked the the staff was actively trying to find them overnight accommodation.
- The Rye Y’s flood gates at 21 Locust Avenue kept the water at bay. They recently moved their boilers and mechanical systems to the roof.
- Rye schools kept students in class all day Friday at the request of PD. The turf field at and the basement-level fitness center at Rye High School both flooded.
