Rye Garden Club Show Opens @ Apawamis
The Rye Garden Club opened its flower show at the Apawamis Club on Wednesday. Two rooms are filled with stunning horticultural specimens and displays, flower arrangements, educational displays and photography. The exhibits are open to the public again on Thursday, September 14, from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Various plant species are highlighted and displays range from serious to stunning to whimsical. You can see displays are informed by Nancy Reagan’s red dress, Christian Dior and Barbie.
Another display by Jung Chai and Nancy Everett is a detailed model of “tomorrow’s sustainable town, USA”. The entry illustrates “best practices and design for our rapidly changing, challenging environment” and was bestowed the Marion Thompson Fuller Brown Conservation Award for its ability to increase knowledge and awareness of the environment. Fuller Brown was an American environmentalist, known in part for her work banning billboards in the State of Maine.
The Rye Garden Club maintains plantings around the City including the flower pots along Purchase Street and Purdy Avenue, the garden behind the Square House off the Village Green and the traffic island across from the Knapp House at the intersection of Milton Avenue and Rye Beach Avenue.
