Girls Varsity Soccer Brings Down #1 Ranked Team
Rye Girls Varsity Soccer brought down the number one ranked AAA Arlington Admirals 2 – 0 at a rainy home game on Saturday.
“From the start of the whistle, Rye played with calmness, intensity and poise,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage.
Bowyn Brown, Lyla Keenan and Reese Lejiuz controlled the midfield for Rye. Maddy Walsh was a work horse who was able to strip the ball from an Arlington defender and play a pass to senior Co-captain Isabelle Harvey who struck the ball in the upper 90 for Rye’s first goal.
Just six minutes later in the first half, Maddy Walsh would receive a through ball from Bowyn Brown and tuck the ball into the back of the net for Rye’s second goal of the night.
The Admirals would come out strong in the second half, but defense was steadfast at shutting down all scoring opportunities. Claire Nemsick, Sage Ruttenberg, Alli Koford and Della Goodman held down the back line while Tessa was solid in goal for the Garnets.
The Garnets are now 13 – 3. Watch the replay. Rye will travel to Pearl River Monday for their last game of the regular season. Game start is 5:00pm
