Girls Varsity Soccer Just Purr-fect Over Edgemont Panthers
Rye Girls Varsity Soccer was just purr-fect over the Edgemont Panthers on Wednesday with a 5 – 0 win at home.
“Rye controlled the pace of the game from the opening whistle,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage. “As Edgemont tried to play a defensive counter attack style of soccer, Rye’s midfield play of Lyla Keenan, Maddy Walsh and Bowyn Brown was able to move the ball around Edgemont’s defense.”
Rye’s opening goal was a perfect passing combination with passes coming from Lyla Keenan, Isabelle Harvey and Maddy Walsh over to a beautiful to a perfect shot from Charlotte Keenan. Within the next two minutes, freshman Shira Rand would play the perfect cross to Isabelle Harvey who tucked the ball in the back of the net.
In the second half, Maddy Walsh found the back of the net within the first three minutes of the half on a pass from Charlotte Keenan. Both Paige Vanneck and Joy DeSanto would show their speed flashing by the Edgemont defenders and driving the ball to the back of the net.
Keeper Karenna Chader made 3 saves to persevere the shutout while defenders Claire Nemsick, Sage Ruttenberg, Alli Koford and Della Goodman did an outstanding job of closing down Edgemont’s scoring opportunities.
The team holds a 8 -2 record for the season. Watch the replay. Rye will host Eastchester on Friday night at 7:15 pm for their senior night game (watch it).
