Rye Girls Varsity Soccer sent the Tappan Zee Dutchmen back across the Hudson with zero on Thursday by polishing a 2 – 0 win at Nugent Stadium. The Garnets now advance to the Section 1 Class A championship game Sunday.

“Rye had a tough battle against the Tappan Zee Dutchman,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage.

Rye’s defense was stellar preventing Tappan Zee’s long ball counter attack style of play. Claire Nemsick was very composed for Rye’s center back and Bowyn Brown was incredible at winning all head balls as well. Lyla Keenan, Maddy Walsh, and Isabelle Harvey passed the ball nicely to help set up the first goal Rye’s Charlotte Keenan.

Mali White, Mary Sack and Shira Rand worked extremely hard on the outside of the field.
In the second half, Charlotte Keenan beat three Tappan Zee defenders to set Rye’s second goal by Isabelle Harvey who perfectly placed in the corner of the goal.

With this win, Rye advances to the Section 1 Class A championship game 12:30pm Sunday at Nyack High School. Watch the replay. The team is now 17 – 2 for the season.

Rye will take on Albertus Magnus who is the defending NYS champion team who has not lost a game to a Section 1 team for the past two years. “Rye is ready and excited for the challenge,” said Savage.
