In Memory: Richard Hill, Age 74
Marblehead, MA – Age 74, Richard Hill of Marblehead died September 29th. Rich was born in Rye, NY, grew up in Princeton, NJ and spent most of his adult life in Marblehead, MA. A 1967 graduate of Deerfield Academy, and 1971 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, Rich’s life was driven by his passion for the sea.
At the age of 24, with very little time on the water, but a big dream, Rich had earned enough money to buy a 37′ sloop and recruit a handful of other adventurers to kick in and sail around the world for 4 years. The challenges were daunting, but they all survived.
This experience led him to his career as a yacht broker, starting his own successful brokerage business, Hill & Lowden, with partner, George Lowden in 1996. He remained there until his passing. Rich and George were regulars on the regional sail racing circuit and won many races over the years.
Rich leaves behind his beloved wife, Francie and their son, Sam of whom he was infinitely proud. Rich’s family is grateful for the medical teams at Salem Hospital, MedFlight, and MGH Neuroscience ICU for their skilled and compassionate care in his final days.
