Rye PD Arrests Two for Stolen License Plates
Rye PD arrested two individuals for driving vehicles with stolen license plates. Both from Port Chester, the two men were arrested within a few hours of each other in the close vicinity of Rye PD headquarters.
On Tuesday around 11:00am, a City of Rye Police Officer stopped a 2010 Honda CRV on McCullough Place in the area of Purdy Avenue. A party had stopped the officer and stated the Honda CRV had struck his parked vehicle and was attempting to leave the scene. An initial investigation by the officer revealed the two license plates mounted on the Honda CRV were stolen.
The vehicle displayed two license plates both reported stolen to the Port Chester Police Department on September 27. The driver of the vehicle, 27-year old Kleber Xavier Gutama- Gonzalez of Port Chester, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. He was also issued a summons for driving a motor vehicle with no insurance, unlicensed operation, unregistered motor vehicle, and improper plates.
Gutama-Gonzalez is due back in Rye City Court on October 24, 2023.
Three and a half hours later at 2:30 pm, a City of Rye Police Officer stopped a 2013 Honda Civic on Purdy Avenue after the license plate reader on his patrol vehicle alerted him the plate being displayed on the Honda was stolen.
Upon further inspection the vehicle had two different Connecticut license plates both reported stolen. The driver identified as 35 year old Walter Nicolas Japon-Guarango of Port Chester, New York, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of stolen property. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Ligia Durasno-Escandon who was arrested by Rye Police on September 15th for operating a 2010 Honda CRV in the City of Rye with stolen license plates.
Japon-Guarango is due back in Rye City Court on October 24, 2023.
