Over 1,400 participants took the plunge on Saturday at Playland Beach, raising over $250,000 for Special Olympics New York athletes by wading into the cold Long Island Sound.

“Playland has been a part of the community for 95 years and we are proud to host this year’s Westchester Polar Plunge,” said Playland General Manager Jeff Davis. “Playland Beach is beautiful any time of year even with a chill in the air! Congratulations to all the teams that participated today, and we can’t wait to see you next year!”

Special Olympics New York used Playland Beach for the first time since 2011. The event was cancelled in 2012 due to Hurricane Sandy and then took turns at Glen Island and Westchester Country Club Beach Club.
