Garnet Football Wins Section 1, Class B Championship, Heads to State Regional Playoffs
Garnet Football won the Section 1, Class B championship on Saturday and will now head to State regional playoffs. The Garnets stalked the Panthers of Pleasantville for the 35 – 21 win.
“We executed our game plan, which meant having long sustained drives that consumed the game clock, finishing with five touchdowns and limiting the opportunities for Pleasantville to have the ball,” said Rye Boys Varsity Football Coach Dino Garr.
“Our line, consisting of center Tommy Anderson, guards (co-captain) Jason Gonzalez and Patrick McGuire, tackles Owen Welburn and Ronan O’Byrne, and tight ends Jake Kessner and Charlie Stevens, with other blockers Andrew Wilmarth and Charlie Saurack, and the outstanding running by Chris Iuliano, proved to be the difference. Special credit goes to our defense for doing an outstanding job of containing a very strong Panther offense. Our next game is a NYS regional playoff game against Port Jervis High School at Goshen High School this coming Saturday at noon.”
The team has won ten Section 1, three State titles (2005, 2007, 2008), three runner up titles (1993, 2003, 2004) and the last time in the State playoffs was 2021.
