Girls Varsity Soccer Claws the River Hawks of Owego Free Academy to Advance
Rye Girls Varsity Soccer clawed the River Hawks of Owego Free Academy on a cold Wednesday, winning the away game 4 – 0. The Garnets continue their post-season advance.
“After a three hour bus ride and a small snow storm, the Garnets were ready to take on Owego Free Academy, the Section 4 sectional champions,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage. “From the opening whistle, Rye dominated and set the pace of play. The Garnets controlled the ball, moving around the field nicely with the difficult conditions.”
Outside back Sage Ruttenberg would open up the scoring off a corner kick from Bowyn Brown. Lyla Keenan would set up Sage who pinged the ball off the post and into the back of the net.
The second goal would come off another corner kick from Bowyn Brown and Charlotte Keenan with a burst of speed, would one touch the ball into the back of the net. Charlotte Keenan would also set up Isabelle Harvey for the third goal of the match. Harvey would contribute the final goal as well off a pass from Maddy Walsh. Defense had a stellar game not permitting any rest scoring opportunities.
The Garnets have polished a season 19 – 2 record. The Garnets will travel to Walkhill, New York on Saturday to take on Section 9 champion Our Lady of Lourdes.
