In Memory: Sister Danielle Marie Baran, C.R., Age 72

Obituary - Sister Danielle Marie BaranCASTELTON-ON- HUDSON – Sister Danielle Marie Baran, C.R., age 72, was born to eternal life on November 8, 2023, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

Sister entered the community of the Sisters of the Resurrection on August 26, 1972, in Chicago. Her years of religious formation were at the Provincial Home of the Sisters of the Resurrection in Castleton. Sister Danielle professed her final vows on August 15, 1974, and celebrated her silver jubilee on June 6, 1999. Sister Danielle Marie loved her religious vocation and faithfully devoted her life to God as a Sister of the Resurrection for fifty-one years.

Born in Chicago, Sister Danielle Marie was the daughter of the late Daniel Baran and Lenore Komornick Baran. She is survived by her brother, Daniel Jr. (the late Christine); her nephew, Jason, his wife, and children; and her niece, Tracy, as well as many cousins, including, Sister Carolyn Sniegowski, C.R., from the Chicago Province of the Sisters of the Resurrection.

Sister Danielle Marie’s ministry to God and the Church over the course of many years was in the fields of nursing and education. Sister served as a registered nurse at Resurrection Nursing Home in Castleton and Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. Sister was an elementary school teacher at St. Casimir in Albany, St. Veronica in Howell, N.J., and St. Agnes in Lake Placid. For five years, Sister was the principal at Immaculate Conception School in Watervliet. From 1987 to 2012 she served as vice principal and principal of Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale, N.Y. Sister Danielle Marie also served in pastoral ministry at Resurrection Parish in Rye, N.Y. from 2012 to 2020.

Sister was a gifted speaker and during her many years of service, she gave retreats to various Religious Communities and parish groups. Sister Danielle Marie served as the provincial superior of the Sisters of the Resurrection, New York Province, for three years, from August 2, 2020, to August 1, 2023.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call at the Chapel of the Sisters of the Resurrection on Sunday, November 12, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Monday morning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 13, at 11 a.m. at the Sisters of the Resurrection Provincialate, 35 Boltwood Ave., Castleton-on-Hudson. Interment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery, Castleton.
