In Memory: Carol Connery Sellon, Age 88
Carol C. Sellon, age 88, died peacefully on Christmas Eve 2023 at her home in Rye, N.Y. surrounded by loving family.
Born on March 22, 1935, to parents Ruth and Matthew Connery, Carol graduated from Mamaroneck High School and briefly attended Mary Baldwin College before she married the love of her life, Peter Sellon. She later completed her degree in early childhood development at Sarah Lawrence College while raising her three children. Carol went on to teach Kindergarten and First Grade at Rye Country Day School.
Passionate about creating beautiful homes and gardens, Carol loved to host family and friends at her residences in Rye, Telluride, Colorado, and St. Thomas, USVI. Always full of energy, she skied, and played tennis and golf at both Westchester Country Club and Apawamis Club. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren learn to play tennis and sail at American Yacht Club.
Carol was involved with and supportive of the Rye Twig, the Rye Garden Club, the Rye Historical Society, the Knapp House, and the Jay Heritage Center.
She loved travel and was a fine painter, a talent she inherited from her mother, Ruth, developing her own style, most recently a series of beautiful impressionist landscapes featuring views of Long Island Sound painted in her small waterside studio.
Predeceased by her husband Peter, she is survived by her three children, Chris (Lynn), Karen (Matt) and Mark (Allison). She was the beloved grandmother of eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held on February 11th at American Yacht Club in Rye from 12-3:30pm.
