Rye Schools Now Closed for Tuesday, Jan. 16

Due to deteriorating weather conditions, the Rye City School District announced early Tuesday morning schools would be closed for the day. It had previously announced a 2 hour delay.

“The most current forecast is calling for continued snow and freezing rain until early afternoon, therefore the Rye City Schools and offices will now be closed for today,” said Superintendent of Schools Eric Byrne in his announcement just after 6:30am. “I had hoped that a 2-hour delay would be sufficient, but the updated forecast with freezing rain presents too much risk for unsafe driving conditions. All after-school activities and athletics are canceled. The Board of Education will still meet as scheduled this evening.”
