Stolen Vehicle Arrest in Midland Avenue / Peck Avenue Area
Rye PD made a stolen vehicle arrest on Friday morning in the area of Midland Avenue and Peck Avenue.
On Friday, December 29th at about 11:37am, Rye officers were on patrol in the area of Midland Avenue and Peck Avenue when they were alerted by the Westchester County Real Time Crime Unit (RTC) of a stolen white Toyota Highlander traveling in the area. One of the largest license plate reader systems in the country, RTC scans & archives approximately 40 million plates a month across 220 MOBOTIX cameras aimed at Westchester County highways.
The Toyota had been reported stolen to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia on December 28, 2023. The vehicle was found on the property of the Courtyard Marriott on Midland Avenue where Rye PD arrested Anthony Bastos, 30, of Daytona Beach, Florida, for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the third degree.
Bastos was transported to Rye Police Headquarters for processing and arraigned in Rye City Court. Bastos was remanded to the Westchester County Correctional Facility until his next scheduled Court appearance on January 2, 2024. Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
