Rye Country Day Senior Named a U.S. Presidential Scholar Candidate

Rye Country Day School (RCDS) senior Neil Noronha has been named a U.S. Presidential Scholar candidate. The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors.

Only 4,500 candidates are selected nationwide, one in every 800 applicants. Of the 4,500, approximately 800 will be named semifinalists in April and then 161 will be named Presidential Scholars in May.

Noronha is taking an exceptionally demanding curriculum at RCDS, including Honors English Seminar, AP Physics C, Multivariable Calculus, and Advanced Topics in Data Structures. His drive to embrace new and advanced academic experiences has led him to pursue additional coursework in Columbia University’s Science Honors Program and to create two independent study courses in astrophysics and sustainable engineering.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Noronha is the Captain of the Upper School Robotics team, a varsity wrestler, a pianist, and a dedicated music mentor at the Stamford Boys and Girls Club. Deeply committed to global social impact, Neil volunteered in India in the summer of 2023, teaching leadership skills to young students.
