Today, meet American Chef Christopher Kimball.

Christopher Kimball, born on June 5, 1951, in Rye, New York, is a renowned American chef, editor, publisher, and television and radio personality. Kimball grew up in Westchester County, New York, with his family, where they also had a cabin in southwestern Vermont. His passion for cooking and media has significantly influenced the culinary world through his founding of several successful food-related ventures.

Kimball’s educational journey took him from Phillips Exeter Academy to Columbia University, where he graduated in 1973 with a degree in Primitive Art. His early career began in publishing and marketing, but his love for cooking led him to establish Cook’s Magazine in 1980 with the help of $100,000 in angel investments. This marked the start of his influential role in culinary media.

He is best known as the co-founder, editor, and publisher of America’s Test Kitchen, which encompasses television and radio shows, Cook’s Illustrated magazine launched in 1993, and Cook’s Country magazine in 2004. America’s Test Kitchen has a unique business model that relies on reader revenue rather than advertising, setting it apart from competitors. Kimball also hosted the affiliated public television cooking shows for many years.

In 2016, after parting ways with America’s Test Kitchen, Kimball launched Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street, a new venture aimed at redefining the way people think about cooking through a multimedia food preparation organization. This organization includes a magazine, cooking school, and Milk Street Radio, all located on Milk Street in Boston, Massachusetts. Kimball’s departure from America’s Test Kitchen and the subsequent founding of Milk Street led to a lawsuit from Boston Common Press, alleging he used company resources for his new venture. This lawsuit was settled in August 2019.

Throughout his career, Kimball has authored several cookbooks, including “The Cook’s Bible” and “The Dessert Bible,” contributing significantly to culinary literature. He has made television appearances on shows like “This Old House” and on morning programs like “Weekend Today” and “The Early Show,” and has been a regular contributor on National Public Radio.

Christopher Kimball has been married three times and has a blended family with children from his marriages. His second marriage was to Adrienne Kimball, with whom he has four children. They divorced in December 2012. He later married Melissa Lee Baldino, the executive producer of America’s Test Kitchen television show, in June 2013. They have two children together and she is also the co-founder of Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street.

Kimball’s influence in the culinary world is marked by his commitment to providing home cooks with rigorously tested recipes, cooking techniques, and product recommendations, all aimed at improving kitchen practices and enhancing the cooking experience.
