Boys Varsity Rugby Buffs the Red Out of the Cardinals
Rye Boys Varsity Rugby buffed the red out of the Cardinals of Greenwich on Tuesday, winning the away match 12 – 7.
“Junior Andrew Wilmarth opened the scoring in the first half with a thunderous run into the corner of the try zone,” said Rye Boys Varsity Rugby Coach Jim O’Hara. “Junior Archer Fenton kicked the conversion to put Rye up 7-0.”
This was a big win for Rye over the higher ranked Greenwich, a perennial rugby powerhouse. Rye came into the game ranked #23 in the nation and Greenwich ranked #14, but those numbers are likely to change as a result of this victory for Rye.
The team is 3 – 1 for the season.
