Just three strokes separated the Rye Girls Varsity Golf team from Clarkstown North in a tight race for second place in the Section One tournament on Monday. The Garnets shot 393 as a team in total, good enough for third place and just mere shots behind the Rams, who came in at 390. Scarsdale ran away with the title by over 40 shots, but the battle for second came down to the wire.

Head Coach Rich Savage was very proud of his team, saying “All girls played extremely well for the golf team this Spring.” This is even more impressive given the relative youth on the roster – two freshman, one sophomore, and three juniors competed at the tournament, held at the Union Vale Links golf club in LaGrangeville, New York.

Highlighting the day for Rye was Myla Bisceglia. Nearly landing two holes-in-one, she eventually finished fourth among the field individually, ahead of last year’s Section 1 winner, Emma Lee (Scarsdale). Bisceglia will compete for the individual state championship team on Wednesday, May 22. If she places within the top nine of her field, she will qualify for that team, which next competes in early June in Albany, New York.

“All of Myla’s hard work is certainly paying off,” Coach Savage told MyRye.com. “The entire team and coaching staff is extremely proud of Myla’s performance. We can hardly wait for Myla to compete on Wednesday for a spot on the Section 1 state tournament team.”
