Obituary - Vincent J. Ballantoni Jr.Vincent J. Ballantoni, Jr., a resident of Rye, NY for over 48 years, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 29, 1937, in Port Chester, New York, Vincent’s life was a testament to his unwavering kindness, generosity, and dedication to his community. He left this world with the same grace and dignity with which he lived his life, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.

Vincent was the proud son of the late Vincent J. Ballantoni, Sr. and Isabel Kunrod. His formative years in Port Chester were filled with the warmth of family and the close-knit bonds of the community, which he would continue to foster throughout his life. After graduating from Port Chester High School in the class of 1955, Vincent immediately answered the call of duty and joined the United States Navy, serving his country with honor and pride until 1959.

Upon returning to civilian life, Vincent began working at the RB&W Bolt and Nut Factory, where he honed his skills and work ethic from 1960 to 1965. However, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to venture into business ownership along with his father, brother and sister, and in 1965, they became the proprietaries of Jay Dee Market in Rye, New York. For 27 years, he was not only a businessman but also a friend to all who walked through the doors of their store.

After selling the market, Vincent continued to serve his community by taking on the role of Transportation Supervisor for the Bryan Hills School District, a position he held with distinction from 1992 until his retirement in 2020. His commitment to the safety and well-being of the students was evident in his daily interactions and steadfast dedication.

Vincent’s service extended beyond his professional life, as he was an integral member of the Rye Fire Department for 55 years. His leadership as Chief for 13 years of the Engine and Hose Company was marked by his courage, integrity, and the deep respect he earned from his fellow firefighters.

The love story that was Vincent’s marriage to his beloved wife, Sylvana, spanned an incredible 60 years. Together, they built a family that was the center of Vincent’s world. He was a guiding light to his children, Mark Ballantoni (Sally) of North Branford, CT, Joe Ballantoni (Carlos) of Rye, NY, and Maria Richardson (Jimmy) of Rye, NY. He instilled in them the values of kindness, community, and hard work.

Vincent’s joy multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Mark Ballantoni, Jr. (Kalene), Candace Bognar (Jordan), Brett Ballantoni, Molly Richardson, Foster Richardson, Tommy Richardson, and Katherine and Charlie Avalos Ballantoni. The news of two great-grandchildren on the way filled his final days with anticipation and happiness.

Vincent is predeceased by several family members including his parents Vincent and Isabel Ballantoni and brother George Ballantoni. He is survived by his sister Adelaide De Crescenzo.

Known for his friendly smile and readiness to lend a helping hand, Vincent was a wonderful community member and beloved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kindness, friendliness, and generous spirit were the hallmarks of his character, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched.

The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home on Monday May 20, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye, NY on Tuesday May 21, 2024 at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Vincent’s name to P.O.T.S (Part of the Solution), 2759 Webster Avenue, Bronx, NY 10458.
