$110M School Budget Passes; Three Uncontested to BOE

The $110 million Rye City School District budget passed with a wide margin but a light voter turnout. The three open trustee spots on the Board of Education went to the three candidates – one incumbent and two new to the role.

On the school budget, ‘Yes’ received 71.7% of the votes and ‘No’ 28.3%. The total votes cast represents 12.5% of the 10,802 total registered voters in the district. The budget represents a 6.14% increase from last year ($33,342 per pupil cost). For more information about the budget:

The three new trustees on the Board of Education are:

  • 1130 votes, 84% of available votes*, 10.5% of 10,802 total registered voters: Callie Erickson (read our MyRye.com interview – incumbent, has served two terms)
  • 1072 votes, 79% of available votes*, 9.9% of 10,802 total registered voters: Valerie Lapham (read our MyRye.com interview – new)
  • 1041 votes, 77% of available votes*, 9.6% of 10,802 total registered voters: Matthew Schibanoff (read our MyRye.com interview – new)
  • *available votes = 1,352 total budget votes cast
