A New Lieutenant at Rye FD
On Monday morning at City Hall, Firefighter Joseph Ganci was elevated to Lieutenant. The position opened in May after Lieutenant Clyde Pitts was elevated to Captain. The move marks the continuation of a multiyear shift in the department from a volunteer to a professional staff.
“Leading people is not easy, leading people at fire scenes, leading people in crisis – very, very difficult work,” said Rye Public Safety Commissioner Mike Kopy to Ganci. “That said, I fully believe you will do an outstanding job.”
Captain Pitts also congratulated Ganci. Ganci then thanked his family and people in the department.
Ganci
Ganci volunteered at the Rye Fire Department in 2016 before being hired as a full time fire fighter in 2017. He is a member of the City’s swift water rescue team. Ganci has served honorably in the United States Navy for 14 years, with active duty from 2010 – 2015.
He currently serves as a Navy reservist. He also works as an EMT in Bridgeport when time permits. Ganci lives in Fairfield with his wife Allison and four children: Jack (age 8), Madeline (age 5), Peter (age 3) and Molly (age 1). He volunteered at FD before being hired as a career firefighter in 2017.
