Rye High School Principal, Assistant Principal Move On
Just two days after the Class of 2024 graduated at Rye High School, two more key members of the school community moved on: Principal Suzanne Short and Assistant Principal William “Bill” Meyer.
“We thank Suzanne and Bill for their years of dedicated service to the students, families, faculty and staff of the RCSD,” Superintendent Dr. Eric Byrne wrote in an email on the night of Sunday, June 23. “We wish them both the very best in their future endeavors.”
Byrne mentioned that Rye will conduct an immediate search to replace Short, who has served been involved with the District for 22 years and Principal for three, with a plan to make a hire during the summer of 2024. A committee headed by Dr. Brian Alm, the District’s Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership, is also planning to hire an interim Assistant Principal before completing a search for a full-time person for that role.
According to Byrne’s email, Short is moving on to pursue other professional opportunities, while Meyer is set to become the Assistant to the Superintendent for K-12 Student and Staff Services in the Eastchester District. Both will be missed at Rye.
The turnover in the School District, particularly the High School Administration, is beginning to resemble 10 Downing Street. To me this is a problem. The School Board just blasted past the tax cap, so we know the administrators are well compensated. These are plum jobs, and I think we as taxpayers are entitled to answers. Over to you, Bob Zahm.
