House Fire on Kirby Lane

While many had just finished enjoying BBQs and watching fireworks, the Rye Fire Department found itself battling a house fire on Kirby Lane late into the evening on Thursday, July 4th. At 10:56pm, Rye FD was dispatched for structure fire at 168 Kirby Lane.

Units arrived on scene to find an electrical service box, part of a detached guest house, on fire. With the fire extending into the structure, additional help was requested from Rye Brook and Port Chester Fire Departments. Con Edison was also called to assist with disconnecting the power supply.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage area and prevent further damage to the rest of the building. One firefighter reported a minor injury and was evaluated and treated on scene by Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS. Firefighters remained on scene until 1:30am.

Firefighters on scene were aided by the Westchester County Cause and Origin Team and the Rye Police Department. While Rye FD was working this fire, mutual aid from Harrison and the Village of Mamaroneck covered other calls within the City of Rye.

Rye FD has not released details as to the cause of the fire.

Records show 168 Kirby Lane is a 6 bedroom, 6 bathroom, 11,242 square foot home owned by Stanley Reese and Ann Reese. It is also the address for the non-profit Center for Adoption Policy (CAP) (Ann Reese is a co-founder).
