Numerous Injuries after Boating Collision Just Outside Milton Harbor
There are numerous injuries after two pleasure boats collided on Long Island Sound in dark conditions Friday evening just south of Milton Harbor. The Rye PD has arrested one of the boat operators for Boating While Intoxicated.
On Friday evening July 19th at approximately 10:00pm, Bay Constables from the City of Rye Police Marine Unit responded to a “mayday” distress call in the area south of Milton Harbor. Upon their arrival they found that two pleasure vessels – a 26 foot 2022 Seafox and a 35 foot 2016 Sea Ray – that had collided in the dark conditions while transiting Long Island Sound.
The collision resulted in two victims being ejected into the water and numerous injuries to the occupants. Five people total sustained injuries according to police. There were four minor injuries and one person sustained a head injury and was transported to the Westchester Medical Center.
The Bay Constables rendered medical care and facilitated transport to waiting Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS units. During the course of the subsequent investigation, Gareth Ederer, age 62 of Thornwood, who was the operator of one of the vessels, was arrested for Boating While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor. Ederer was issued an appearance ticket to Rye City Court on Tuesday, August 6th and released on his own recognizance.
