Rye PD arrested a 27 year old man on Friday evening for DWI.

This past Friday, August 30th, Rye PD responded to the area of Purchase Street and Purdy Ave for a hit and run property damage accident that occurred in the Village of Port Chester. A witness to the accident followed the 2015 Hyundai involved, retrieved the license plate and called 911. Rye Police Officers located the vehicle stopped in the roadway on Purchase Street.

Rye Police Department officers subsequently arrested Paucar W. Chango, 27 of Port Chester, NY for Driving While Intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic infractions. Chango reportedly was attempting to walk away from the vehicle when Rye PD arrived on scene. While interviewing Chango, Rye PD reported an odor of alcoholic beverage was present. Chango was placed under arrest after failing multiple Field Sobriety Tests and transported to Rye Police headquarters for processing, where he recorded a 0.16% BAC.

Chango was issued desk appearance ticket returnable to the City of Rye Court on Tuesday September 17, 2024. Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
