Girls Field Hockey pitched their third straight shutout to open the 2024 season, handling the Pelham Pelicans 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Nugent Stadium. The Garnets’ flying start to the year has them all the way up at sixth in Lohud’s field hockey rankings.

Rye struck first in the second quarter to take a 1-0 lead into halftime before exploding for two goals in seven minutes in the third quarter to create an insurmountable deficit for Pelham. The Garnets wore the Pelicans down all game and took advantage of their fatigue to dominate play in the third quarter, and were rewarded with two goals as a result.

Assistant Coach Theresa Jelalian called the decision “another big win for the Rye field hockey team.” She cited excellent work on both sides of the ball and praised her team for playing as a unit effectively.

The Garnets (3-0) play next at 6:30pm on Friday, September 13. Rye will look to move to 4-0 in another home contest as they host Horace Greeley. Watch it here. Watch their recent victory over Pelham here.
