In Memory: Marion Stewart Cardell, Age 88

Obituary - Marion Stewart CardellMarion Stewart Cardell of Stratford, CT, passed away on September 8, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. Marion was 88 years old. She was the loving wife of Nicholas W. Cardell. The couple met on a blind date and were later married on June 19th, 1954. They first lived in Norwalk, CT, and then settled in Westport, CT to begin their lives together and raise their family of five children. They recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on June 19th, 2024.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Marion was the daughter of the late Mary Kemple Stewart and John Hall Stewart. Marion then moved to Rye, NY where she attended Rosemary Hall and later Rye High School. Marion was very active in local politics and volunteerism in Westport, including the Representative Town Meeting (RTM), Project Concern, and the Catholic Interracial Council, among others. Later, she was a licensed Realtor in Fairfield County for many years.

Marion was most proud of the family she raised, nurtured, and loved for many years with her husband, Nick. In her free time, Marion enjoyed many activities, including tennis, skiing, boating, dancing, painting, and music. In addition to her husband Nick, Marion is survived by her five children; Pamela Williams (Al), Mary Ellen DiJulio (Paul), Christopher Cardell (Sheila), Ann Leonard (Vinnie), and Catherine Yarmosh (Paul). She is also survived by 12 beloved grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A celebration of Marion’s life will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Oronoque Village Clubhouse, 600 N. Trail, Stratford, CT, with a memorial service and a reception immediately following. Marion was kind, generous, and passionate about many charities. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marion’s name may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Donations, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

We love Marion and we will miss her every day, but we know that she is peacefully watching down over all of us. We will take very good care of Dad and each other. Please don’t worry about us. We know we will all be together again. Until then……
