The Rye Fire department has a retirement, a promotion and a new recruit.

With over 26 years of service, Lieutenant John Thompson has officially retired from the department. Thompson was the longest serving member, joining back in 1998. He was promoted to lieutenant in October 2022.

Being elevated into the open lieutenant will be Ryan Iarocci, who joined Rye FD back in September 2016 after transferring from the Port Chester Fire Department. Iarocci and a new firefighter recruit, Tyler Conway, will be sworn into their new positions at Rye City Hall on Tuesday morning.

The New Lieutenant

Iarocci, a third-generation firefighter with over 12 years of experience, resides in Hawthorne, New York, with his wife, Ninamarie, daughter Ryleigh, and another baby girl on the way.

“Over the past eight years, I have grown both professionally and personally, and I am incredibly grateful for the support and camaraderie of my colleagues and the Rye community,” said Iarocci. “I am excited to start this new chapter in my career and look forward to continuing to serve and protect the Rye community with the same dedication and enthusiasm that has guided me throughout my career. Thank you for your continued support as I step into this new role.”
