The Cross Country season is well underway, and the Garnets have two strong showings at two meets early on in their season. According to Head Coach Bryan Johnson, “Led by Captains Anna Kearney, Ben Truman, and Lily Oberbannscheidt, the young team had strong finishes at the Warwick Wave-Mania Invitational and this past weekend’s Regis Invitational.”

The first meet of the fall was the Warwick Wave Mania X-C Invitational on September 7 at Sanfordville Elementary School. Lily Oberbannscheidt led the girls side with an 8th place finish (out of 87) in the 5K. Emma Giannetti and Emma Pedone were the other top finishers for Rye, both in their first career Varsity races.

For the boys, Clayton Stark was the top finisher (33rd of 119 runners), with Ben Truman and Tom Oldfield rounding out the top three.

One week later on September 14, Rye participated in the Regis Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park. Oberbannscheidt led the girls again, placing 14th, and Giannetti and Pedone completed the triumvirate. The team clinched a 7th place finish overall.

The boys had the same podium as well in the same order. Stark was the 48th-place finisher among his competitors. As a team, the gentlemen claimed 14th place.

Both the girls and boys resume play at the Suffern Invitational next weekend at Bear Mountain, as they look to continue building off their first two meets.
