Rye Varsity Cross Country Competes at Bowdoin XC Classic
The Rye Varsity Cross Country team competed in the Bowdoin XC Classic on September 28, and it was a strong showing from runners on both the boys and girls teams. Rye’s highest placer across teams and races was Lily Oberbannscheidt, who ran the 5K course in 21:14.5 and placed 37th.The weather was cool and dry as the races began, and the early start to the races meant the course was in great shape. The girls team kicked things off, followed by the boys.
“We were happy with how the kids ran,” Head Coach Bryan Johnson said after the meet. “We ended up running a little harder in the Rye Town Invitational, so we know it was a longer week than initially anticipated.”
Co-Head Coach Blair Moynahan also noted, “It was nice to be able to run at Bowdoin midseason. Some kids get thrown off by the talk of the hill, so seeing it live before Sectionals is always beneficial.”
After intentionally loading the September calendar, the teams now get two weekends off to put their energy into training, and to recover both mentally and physically from the intense start to the season. The team’s next meet is the League Championship at Edgemont on October 9.
