Two female and three male runners on the Rye Varsity Cross Country Team earned All-League honors on Wednesday afternoon at the League Championship meet. Lily Oberbannscheidt (4th overall) and Emma Giannetti (9th) were the two Garnets to place within the top 14 finishers on the girls side, while Clayton Stark (3rd), Ben Truman (8th), and Thomas Oldfield (13th) did so on the boys side.

In terms of team results, Rye placed third of four on both sides. The final standings were as follows:

Boys: Pelham 1st, Eastchester 2nd, Rye 3rd, Edgemont 4th (Rye placed only two points behind Eastchester)
Girls: Eastchester 1st, Pelham 2nd, Rye 3rd, Edgemont 4th

“One thing in particular stood out,” Head Coach Bryan Johnson told MyRye.com after the meet. “All the athletes ran aggressively, finished strong, and embraced the training we’ve been doing all season.”

“It was exciting after the race to hear so many of our athletes sharing that they PR’d on their times from last year,” Co-Head Coach Blair Moynahan added. “It speaks to the effort that the team has put in this year, and is a great sign of our improvement this season.”

The team’s next meet is on Saturday, October 19 – the Coaches Invitational.
