Rye Girls Tennis closed the 2024 regular season with their second win against league rival Harrison on Tuesday evening by a score of 5-2. With the victory, the team moved to 10-5 on the year (note: their record after last game was recorded incorrectly. 10-5 is the confirmed correct record).

Ella Poole, playing singles for just the second time this year, sealed an individual victory in a tiebreaker, winning 6-4, 7-6 (10-8). It was a very close contest between her and the opposing Husky, but Poole did just enough to come out on top for a clutch win.

“Junior Lana Andikyan dominated her singles match 6-2, 6-0 as she continues her strong season,” Head Coach Anthony Campbell recapped in his postgame report. “Senior doubles team of Ella Froah and Samantha Hobbins won as well (6-1, 6-4), pulling together in a tight second set.”

The Garnets end the 2024 regular season with a very strong 10-5 record (.667). They are set to be the 3-seed in the playoffs, behind Horace Greeley and Scarsdale. Four of Rye’s five losses came to those two teams combined, meaning it will be an uphill battle for them should they match up against one of those two schools at some point. That being said, playoffs are always a different environment than the regular season.

Beyond the team postseason bracket, three of Campbell’s doubles duos are set to take place in the Individual Sectional Doubles Tournament. The pairings for that tournament are:

Senior Sasha Sherman and Sophomore Alex DiMeo
Senior Brooke Gori and Junior Lana Andikyan
Senior Charlotte Lorraine and Soph Harper Van Maanen

These six athletes will not technically represent the team when they play at the tournament, but they will represent Rye. Those matches are scheduled for the last week of October at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. Learn more about the Girls Tennis Championships here.
